"Record Playa," a four-piece polyptych by Martha Valenta, will be featured in Young Hearts Run Free, a group exhibition curated by Dail Chambers.

Drawing from her Gen X roots, Martha Valenta’s Record Playa is a nostalgic reinterpretation of her earlier work originally shown in the Childhood Revisited exhibition at the Sheldon Art Gallery (2022). This vibrant four-panel polyptych features repeated imagery of her beloved Fisher-Price toy record player set against a retro-inspired background pattern of iconic yellow 45-rpm record adapters. Each panel's distinct, solid background color is carefully selected from popular hues of the late '70s and early '80s, immersing viewers in Valenta’s 1980s childhood memories while exploring themes of nostalgia, identity, and the lasting resonance of the music and culture that shaped our formative years.
