Sit & Spin
Interactive Sculpture, Conceptual Art
Materials: Wood, plastic, metal, paint, spray paint
Sit & Spin is an adult-sized reimagining of the classic childhood toy—scaled up and built to bear real emotional weight.
At first glance, the piece taps into nostalgia: a brightly colored object from many people's early years, inviting laughter and play. But beneath the surface, Sit & Spin becomes a metaphor for the internal chaos many neurodivergent individuals—particularly those with ADHD—experience when they sit down to “rest.”
While the body may appear still, the mind is spinning: circling unfinished tasks, past conversations, intrusive thoughts, and bursts of inspiration. The sculpture physically embodies this invisible mental motion, offering participants an opportunity to engage with it—not just metaphorically, but literally.
The materials (wood, plastic, metal) have been hand-shaped and spray-painted to evoke both the toy’s original palette and the intensity of the inner whirlwind it represents. Participants are encouraged to sit on the sculpture and feel the circular motion for themselves—transforming a moment of overwhelm into one of awareness and shared experience.
Sit & Spin invites us to reflect on how stillness and motion coexist inside the ADHD brain—and how art can give form to what’s typically unseen.
